Hi, I’m Sammy

Here’s me, and my beautiful boys.

As a kid my mum owned a kids clothing business, and my brother and I were regularly models. I remember my mum dressing us up and getting us to pose. I took it all in my stride, and pulled my best model face. I often wonder if this is where I developed my love for cameras. Art has always been a big part of my life with much of my high school spent in the art room. In year 11, I really took a deep dive into photography and complied a huge portrait exhibition at the local bakery. After that it fizzled, because life got busy.

When I moved to Broken Hill, the landscape and people recaptured my interest in photography, and it is where Beyond the Fence Photography was born. Why the name you ask? When I started I took photos of everything, from gymkhanas to portraits so felt that this name captured everything i was passionate about at the time.

Now, I still take those photos but Weddings and Lifestyle is my passion. I love to capture the connection between people, and see those small moments where the world pauses when you look at someone. I love seeing a father of the bride overcome with emotion, or a grandparent watching their grandchild's first dance. These are the moments that make me tick.

I think family photos are so important because life is short and you just don't know what is around the corner. Having the memories to look back on is second to none.
